Controls
  • Chemicals (e.g. fertiliser, pesticide, stump treatment, timber preservative, paint) should only be used at the request of and with the prior agreement of the site owner/manager.
  • The manufacturer's description (data sheets) including details of the action to be taken in the event of an accident, must accompany the task.
  • Chemicals and formulations not available to the general public should only be used by volunteers who have received the relevant training, who will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of the chemical's correct use.
  • Chemicals must only be used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Chemicals must be contained, transported and stored so as to minimise the risk of spillage.
  • Equipment used for the application of chemicals (brushes, sprays, etc.) must be transported, stored, etc., so as to avoid contamination of other items and must be cleaned in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Spills must be dealt with in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Recommended protective clothing must be worn, e.g. PVC/rubber gloves, face masks, etc..
  • Always wash hands or use cleansing wipes or gel before eating, drinking or smoking.
