Volunteer Statement

Background
Econet is an independent conservation group whose aim is to conserve and promote awareness and enjoyment of the natural environment in public open spaces and other sites throughout the Reading area.

All members of Econet are volunteers.

Policy
Econet will employ volunteers for all aspects of its activities, both practical and administrative.

Econet will:

Maintain both public liability and personal accident insurance for its volunteers.

Undertake risk assessments for all its conservation tasks to ensure the safety of its volunteers.

Provide all tools and safety equipment necessary to undertake its conservation tasks.

Provide all training necessary to undertake its conservation tasks.

Reimburse any expenses incurred on behalf of the group providing the expenditure has previously been agreed.

Econet may also compensate volunteers for expenses they incur in furtherance of the group's activities such as providing transport of tools. Regrettably the finances of the group do not allow it reimburse individual volunteers for expenses travelling to and from conservation tasks run by the group.

Recruitment
Econet will seek to recruit new volunteers on an ongoing basis through:

Local volunteer agencies, e.g. RVA.

Publicity in local libraries and other public places.

The group's website.

Stalls at local events as may be deemed appropriate.

Other means as may be deemed appropriate from time to time.

Health & Safety and other Policies
When participating in the group's activities volunteers are expected to:

Give due care and attention to the health and safety of the participants and the general public in accordance with the group's Health and Safety statement.

Give due care and attention to the property of the participants, the group and the general public.

Adhere to the group's other policies such as that relating to Equal Opportunities.

Review
Econet will regularly review this statement and take whatever additional measures may be deemed necessary at that time.
