25450114 Not a bad night, only heard the two stroke motorbikes outside, didn't hear any else from the other rooms. The bloke who brought me to the hotel turned up on time and we went about ¼ of a Km to the bus station. I could have walked there! I passed it last night when I was looking for a place to eat. But he wouldn't have got his cut for introducing me, not that I minded too much. The bus station was a privet one and had big pots with ornamental gold fish in them. I had a lot of time to study them as the Luxury Mini Bus; well Van was 40 minutes late. There are only 2 other people who get on the Van with me, a Young Lady and an Old Business Man, both Thai. We then start driving around town looking to pick up more passengers. We collect a couple of parcels and stop at another bus stop to collect some other people. This is starting to look like a "Fly By Night Company" and I wonder if we will leave for Krabi today. I think about asking how many passengers we need before we will set off but I don't think the drivers English is up to it. I decide to use a proper state run bus service next time. At least this Van has A/C. we then go back to the original bus station to pick up someone else who never shows. So, about three hours late, we are off. Mad Thai driving. Saw what I think were kilns next to the road but later found to be crematoria. Krabi is a nice little seaside town. No reception committee where we were dropped off right on the front. This bit of town reminds me of Surfers Paradise in Queensland. Found a café and had a lovely coconut shake and average red curry (65B) for lunch. Afterwards, as I walked along the parade of shops, a Thai bloke, asked if I wanted anything and said "yes, a room for a couple of nights". He says he can take me in his pickup to see a Guesthouse and I said that if it was outside town I wasn't interested. He assured me that it was not, "only around corner". I didn't fancy going to a place like on Koh Phangan again. The pickup did indeed only go around the corner and up bit of a road. It took all of 90 seconds. Nice place with a good view over the town but not of the sea. Not to expensive, so took it. Had a walk back down to the main bit of the town and found the Post Office and another Diving school, so signed up for two dives tomorrow morning. One of the blokes there had worked at Easydive on Koh Tao. Walked around town a bit more and tried to find a way of going to Rangon for here but it just isn't possible. This is Rangon, the Thai Fishing village just up the Andaman Coast Line from Phuket, not the one in Burma (Myanmar). The Guide Book says it's a nice place to stay and is quite underdeveloped because of the poor communications with other places. You can go Diving on Coral Reefs as well from there. I find that it's not simple to just go up the Andaman Coast to Rangon. You can goto Phuket but there are no trains or A/C busses from there, upto Rangon. You have to go all the way back to Surat Thani and up to Chumpon the down another road to get to Rangon. Too far and too difficult, so I abandon that idea. Petty though, as Rangon does look nice. Called Work on the mobile while I watched the sun go down. Everything "same, same" as they say here. The cicadas start their cacophony as soon as the sun sets. They are louder then a motorbike! But quiet down after about 15 minutes. Loads of restaurants that play VCDs in town stop at one and have diner of Prawn Curry, Beer and Coconut milk shake 150B. Not bad. They showed "The Score" in English with English subtitles! Didn't fancy seeing it all the way through again, so went back to the GH and go to bed.
