Padworth Common ~ Bracken bashing

While bracken has its place at the woodland edge, its spread into the Common's more open areas would eventually result in the loss of the heather and other plants to be found there together with the habitat they provide.

A daunting task?

The bracken in the heather was pulled .....

..... while the larger open patches were cut, .....

..... then stacked at the edge.

Result!

Evidence of what had been done, the heaps will breakdown over time providing further habitat.

By lunchtime the light rain which had been falling since coffee was becoming heavier and whilst we waited in the forlorn hope that it would ease we were ultimately forced to concede this was not going to happen and decided to call it a day.
