We are advised by our insurers that from April 2021 our public liability insurance will not provide cover if volunteers or service users claim we are responsible for them catching Coronavirus, or any other infectious disease.

Controls
  • Activities must be organised in accordance with current government guidance, see www.gov.uk/coronavirus.
  • Anyone who has symptoms of coronavirus or lives in a household where someone has symptoms of coronavirus, or is in any other way feeling unwell, should not participate.
  • Participants should bring their own gloves (if needed) and hand sanitiser.
  • Participants should bring their own refreshments. Always use hand sanitiser before eating or drinking.

Controls
  • If available, place warning signs at approaches to work area.
  • Keep paths clear of tools and debris.
  • Avoid volunteers working in isolation.
  • If confronted be conciliatory, avoid aggravating situation; be prepared to walk away.
  • If sharps found, do not touch or move, highlight location and advise site owner or manager.
  • Warn volunteers of possibility of dogs causing a distraction by entering the work area.
  • Warn volunteers of likely presence of dog faeces.
  • If practical, remove dog faeces from work areas using bags or burying where unlikely to be disturbed. Avoid skin contact.

Controls
  • Leader(s) to walk route in advance noting hazards and removing where possible.
  • Advise participants at start of walk and remind on route of possible hazards.
  • Before start of walk (in advertising material) give details of terrain and likely conditions and repeat before start of walk.
  • Before start of walk (in advertising material) advise on appropriate clothing and footwear and for late evening, night time and early morning walks request that participants provide torches.
  • Do not walk in the vicinity of dead trees or trees containing deadwood in windy conditions.
  • Before start of walk remind parents (or other accompanying adults) that they are responsible for their children.
  • Leader(s) must avoid becoming isolated with children.
  • Avoid volunteers working in isolation.
  • If confronted be conciliatory, avoid aggravating situation; be prepared to walk away.
